The HUMMS strand is designed for those who wonder what is on the other side of the wall. In other words, you are ready to take on the world and talk to a lot of people. This is for those who are considering taking up journalism, communication arts, liberal arts, education, and other social science-related courses in college.
If you take this strand, you could be looking forward to becoming a teacher, a psychologist, a lawyer, a writer, a social worker, or a reporter someday. This strand focuses on improving your communication skills. Oh! And priesthood is a choice in here too!
These are the courses under HUMMS:
- Bachelor of Science in Architecture (BS Architecture)
— Is a five-year degree program in the Philippines that is concerned with the design and planning of architectural structures such as residential and commercial buildings, roads, dams, tunnels, bridges, and the like.
- Bachelor of Arts in Communication
— Is a four-year degree program intended for individuals who wish to pursue a career in the fields of media, advertising, public relations, and similar industries. It discusses how different media platforms are able to relay the information through verbal and non-verbal messages.
- Bachelor of Sciences in Criminology
— Is a four-year degree program intended for individuals who wish to have a career in the fields of law enforcement, security administration, crime detection, and prevention of correctional administration.
- Bachelor of Elementary Education
— Is a four-year degree program designed to prepare students to become primary school teachers. The program combines both theory and practice in order to teach students the necessary knowledge and skills a primary school teacher needs.
- Bachelor of Secondary Education
— Is a four year degree program designed to prepare students for becoming high school teachers. The program combines both theory and practice in order to teach students the necessary knowledge and skills a high school teacher needs
- Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism
— Is a four-year degree program that deals with the concepts, theories, and principles of news writing, feature writing, editing, copy reading and advertising.
- Bachelor of Arts major in Social Studies
— Is a four-year program that uses sociology, economics, geography, politics, history, anthropology, and geography to study specific cultural and geographical areas in the Philippines and Asia as a whole.
- Bachelor of Arts major in Philosophy
— Philosophy prepares adults for career change, advancement or graduate education, while providing personal enrichment. The program explores philosophies that have shaped Western Civilization as well as critical thinking and the development of one’s own philosophical views.
- Bachelor of Arts major in Asian Studies
— Usually broad multidisciplinary programs that give students a look at many areas, including Asian literature, art, politics, and sociology. … Students are usually required to fulfill foreign language requirements in one of the Asian languages, such as Korean, Japanese, or Chinese.
- Bachelor of Arts major in Literature
— A well-rounded background in British, American, and world literatures, as well as an introduction to critical theory. The program prepares graduates for a wide range of professions, including careers in education, publishing and editing, marketing, law, and administration.
- Bachelor of Arts major in Foreign Studies
— Is a four-year undergraduate program which aims to produce competent future leaders in understanding global affairs. It is designed to develop students with the right analytical tools for different social, political, and economic issues among states.
- Bachelor of Arts major in Political Science
— Is a four-year degree program which centers on the study of governments, the history and forms of political institutions, political behavior and political policies. … AB in Political Science is also a preparatory course for a law degree.

One of the benefits you can get in this track is to enhance the speaking skills you build in this track and to boost your self-confidence. I do believe that many students are not open about their communication and that leads to being introvert. This track serves as your helping hands to reach the goals in your life. Humss strand revolves around improving the student in writing, reading, and comprehending. Also, it helps you to fasten the seat belt for you when you’re entering college and to strengthen your logical reasoning.
Why you must choose HUMSS?
Humss is one of the demand strands nowadays because they are the future servant in our country and maybe you’re one of the servants were waiting for. Doesn’t mean that you’re into HUMSS you are not useful and there’s no future ahead of yours because is not about choosing a certain way on what society defines. It’s about how you establish the direction you chose. This strand will open your eyes to what’s happening to our society. And this strand will have to test the ability and potential you have. In the end, you’ll be the person you building up.
